Myanmar, Republic of Southeast Asia, the country was previously called Burma. Bordered by China to the northeast, Laos on the east, Thailand on the southeast and Bangladesh and India to the west. There's coastline facing the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Naypyidaw is the capital, but Yangon is the largest city.

Long-term mismanagement and military conflicts have led to Myanmar is among the world's poorest countries. Since 2011, reforms have led the country in a more democratic direction.

Myanmar has a tropical monsoon climate with high temperatures except in mountain areas in the north and west. There are three seasons: a cool (November to February), a very hot (March to May) and a rainy season (May to October).

Wildlife is abundant including elephant, Sumatran rhinoceros, tiger, leopard, malayabjørn, collar bears, water buffalo and several species of monkeys. There are over 1000 species of birds; characteristic is pheasants, peacocks and bankivahøns. There are several species of snakes, such as pythons and cobras, and the coast is delta crocodile. There are many species of fish on the coast and in the rivers.
