Saba is a small island in the Caribbean which from 2010 is a municipality with special status in the Netherlands. It amounted to 10 October 2010 one of five islands of the Netherlands Antilles, which was one of three countries in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The capital is The Bottom.

The population of Saba was at the beginning of 2009 was estimated at 1601. The population of Saba have English as their first language. The people of Saba are Roman Catholic and Protestants.

The first Europeans who came to Saba sailed with Christopher Columbus, who in 1493 came to Saba and neighboring islands. Saba was first named San Cristóbal. From the neighboring island of Sint Eustatius took the Dutch in the 1630s control of Saba. The island was first examined by the Dutch West India Company, but as it entered in 1791 the island was a direct Dutch colony.

In 1954 the island became part of the Netherlands Antilles. Voters in Saba sent one representative to the elected assembly meeting, the State van de Nederlandse Antilles, which had 22 members. The island's internal affairs were attended by a selected øyråd of five members and a øystyre, also with five members.

The relationship between the Netherlands Antilles and the Netherlands in 2010 was reorganized. In November 2004, voted 86% of voters on Saba for closer ties with the Netherlands. The Netherlands Antilles was dissolved on 10 October 2010 and Saba were then be converted into a Dutch municipality with special status.
